La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversize iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

4th time back. Return with every trip to NYC. Food still excellent. Zucchini fries a great sharing appetizer. Bolognese is decadently rich. Service is prompt. We usually go on a weekday. This time was on a Sunday so place was packed with customers bumping my chair every 5 minutes. In the past we have always sat in the back where it’s a bit quieter and not so cramped. Regardless, will be back again but will schedule for midweek.

Great food. My veal chop was perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful - worth the cost and more. . My companion’s Agnolotti was wonderful. - both the pasta and the mushroom sauce. Top notch Tiramisu. Great service.

We had heard and read positive reviews. Ours is a little more muted. The food is good and the location in the heart of the theatre district is ideal for those who are in town to see shows. But, beware: the room is crowded and buzzing; those who criticize the overamped modern background music with its incessant bass and drum beats pounding away are right (a mismatch for the space); and abundant portions await you with every course. The server might have alerted us that the zucchini appetizer could feed a table of four or six and that ordering soup might be a bit too far for an older couple. Mind you, the entree would have sufficed—a pounded veal chop that covered an ample plate. So, if you read OpenTable reviews, as I do, be aware that the kitchen offers generous portions. Delicious, in our experience. The service lauded in other reviews was, in our experience, rather dour and hurried instead. Wish we could have tried a dessert, but there was no room left. Pace yourself and you’ll have a better experience.

This has become our restaurant of choice when we want a special meal in the Theater District. The food is always outstanding and the service and atmosphere are exceptional. Everything is professional--but relaxed at the same time. It does get busy, so reservations are a must. But do yourself a favorite and try it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed. Lots of good options to choose from, including delicious hot and cold appetizers and salads, homemade pastas, meats, fish, wines and desserts. Buon appetito!
