Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

We had a wonderful dinner and I can’t wait to go again!! We were promptly seated for our reservation. The server offered us drinks right away. We had the spit roasted lamb (the special of the night) and the whole grilled branzino. Oh, started with the lamb meatballs and grilled artichokes and peppers. Finished the night with the ice cream sundae. Everything was outstanding!

I used to love Kokkari. LOVE. It has changed. The food was very subpar. Food was delivered as if on a conveyor belt, which explained the quality of temperature and preparation. I tipped well because the service was outstanding from the reception to the servers. I will come back because I am really really hoping the kitchen had a bad night. You cannot serve pink tomatoes at a fine-dining Greek restaurant like Kokkari. You just cannot. I brought guests who had never been and I talked it up as some of the best finer Greek in the US (next to Milos) and was so disappointed.

First time ever. Lamb chops were undercooked and tough. Ordered a bottle of wine took twenty minutes to get it. Service was also the most lacklustre I have ever experienced at Kokkarris hope this isn’t the start of a decline in one of my favourite restaurants

I have no idea what the fuss is about this place. The proportions of the Greek salad were way off, with a few green peppers and onions and olives, but HUGE chunks of cucumbers and tomatoes; if you’re going to slice them, do it one more time so we don’t have to. The saganaki was tasty but didn’t flame as it usually does. First we were helped by the bartender (we were at the bar), then by another waiter who disappeared at the end of the meal. A halibut order was okay, but my bland pumpkin ravioli was overwhelmed by the mushrooms. The rice pudding was bland; even the honeyed pear didn’t help. With a third entree and one glass of wine, the total was $200. Given how hard it was to get reservations, and how highly it was recommended, we were left shrugging.

First of all--the food was great in flavor. Only two concerns. My dining partner ordered her glass of wine to be served with the food, and we had to remind the server that we'd done that, so it came after the entree with a bit of a delay. Second concern: The fried smelt were not as hot as I have had them before, and that's a dish that lives or fails on how hot and crispy the little fishies are. The entre was also cooler, specifically the souvlaki which I had. The potatoe wedges were warm, not hot and the meat also warm, not hot. However, the flavors were wonderful. Our server was helpful and attentive without being intrusive, always a balance to be found there. This is my third time at Kokkari. Next time, I'll ask when I order to make sure the food is hot at service.
