We eat here often on our way to the theater. We are always impressed with the quality of the food and service. We enjoy the meal, and are always served and finished in time for the show!

Favorite place to dine before seeing a wonderful performance in the La Jolla Theater district. Atmosphere is quiet with an elegance. Varied selection of entrees with a decent wine list.

Missed the sushi during our visit last night— I tried something different and it was ok but I was really looking forward to the California tolls, my usual go-to before theater. Lovely service.

We go to plays often at the La Jolla Playhouse and finally were able to dine beforehand at James Place. While the service was very good and the ambiance relaxing, the seating was uncomfortable. But by far the most disappointing aspect was the food itself. The lobster tail was tough, the shrimp just okay, and the soup was bland. Unacceptable at a place that prides itself on steak and seafood, especially at their prices. We will not be going back.

This is the place to go to before a play/musical at La Jolla Playhouse. The cocktails are great and the menu provides a range of choices to satisfy even the pickiest eater.

No sushi available on menu - lost their sushi chef. Scallop appetizer was awful. Scallops were over cooked and lacked any real taste. Appearance on plate looked unprofessional. I would definitely take this appetizer off the menu - at least they figure out how to make it!
