   Normally, our experience here is fine, we’ve eaten here numerous times, and it is one of our favorite area restaurants. Had today been our first time here - we would never return. Something was clearly off with the service, most notably the food runners. Five of us had brunch, my wife and I, and our 3 adult children. The wait for food was far longer than typical, on a typical Sunday at 12noon. The dining room was not close to being full - multiple open tables including a table set for 14 that was not yet present. So, why the service issue? No apparent reason. The main issue was cold food. Multiple dishes came to the table cold. My huevos rancheros was cold - not lukewarm, cold. The beans were cold, the eggs, the entire dish. How long must a hot skillet dish have sat to get cold to the touch? The Margehrita pizza, cold enough that the cheese had congealed and there was no stringiness whatsoever. My wife’s Eggs Benedict came out incorrectly prepared (asked to substitute English muffin with white toast and it came out on an English muffin, with white toast on the side) and needed to be sent back to the kitchen. But the kicker? I waited approx 25 minutes for anyone to come by with a coffee refill. Finally I had to stop someone to ask for coffee. Now - I’ve never had this happen ever. The coffee was finally poured, ice cold. Have you ever been served cold coffee? At brunch? It makes no sense. I’ll hope this is a one-off. It was pretty awful.

   I ordered the scallops and they were not the size or quality I expected, but they were good. The short ribs were a hit, dessert was ok. The cheesecake was dense. Overall the ambiance is wonderful and great service.

   It was a perfect evening. From start to finish. The food and service were top notch as always. The back room for our large party was perfect. Was not noisy and the music was great.

   Food was excellent as was the service, once we were seated. And the getting seated part was the problem. I’m an Open Table VIP and had a reservation for six people for 5 pm. We were seeing a show at 7, so timing was tight. Upon our prompt arrival at 5 pm, I told the folks at the desk that four were there and ready to be seated and order, while two were running 30 minutes late. They did not want to seat us until all six were present. In fact, they sat us at a table, and then came and told us the table for actually for another party and we would have to wait for another table. Only after going up to the desk and asking about three different times did they relent and get us to a table for six. As I had represented, the four present ordered quickly, the other two arrived at 5:30 and ordered immediately, and we were all out the door making the table available for another party by 6 pm, one hour later. At the time we left, there were several tables with no one seated at them, including one just next to our table which also sat six. Would I return to this restaurant? Yes, the food, especially the steak, was that good. But the service at the beginning of the experience was so bad that I have to rate the restaurant only three stars when it could have been a four or five star review.

    We celebrated a 109th birthday tonight. The service was fantastic. The chef is tops. All the bells and whistles. Don’t miss this superb place. Notwithstanding being near the water, the food is excellent.
