Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. What an unexpected and pleasant surprise this restaurant was, nestled within the old Eagle Tavern. The ambience and decor really aligned with the broader theme of a southern farm to table kitchen. The cocktails were spectacular, especially if you like whiskey, because they have an incredible selection. The sweet potato hush puppies were perfectly fried, and the honey and sauce were delicious. We ordered the short rib and salmon, and the chef was able to make adjustments to the vegetables to address an allergy issue. Both plates were licked completely clean because everything was absolutely delicious. We also got the skillet cornbread and while it was two cut slices on a skillet and not an actual skillet, the flavor was delicious. The only adjustment I would suggest there is the butter was chilled, which made it hard to spread. I wasn’t as excited about the dessert selection but honestly, I didn’t need dessert because the meal was just spectacular. Special shout out to our server, Maddie, who was perfectly attentive without being ever present.

Reservation easy on Open Table. We were greeted promptly and seated in a quiet room with nice ambience. I thought the quality of the sushi rolls was truly excellent. The service was attentive and the price good value.
