Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! We were impressed with the Thanksgiving prix fixe meal. The food quantity and quality were very good. The service and atmosphere were also impressive. Only one negative was the food temperature. The soup and main meal were not warm. Everything else was so good it was easy to overlook that issue.

The restaurant itself looked tastefully decorated for the holidays allowing us to relax in a holiday mood. The food and wait staff was amazing as usual. The time that stuck out most to me was when the acting manager came over to our table to say hi and see how our night was going. He remembered that we were married there 6+ years ago. That attention to detail is what makes this establishment our night-out dining choice.
