A Traditional Derbyshire InnWith A Five Counties View! The Barrel Inn, a traditional Derbyshire country inn, dates back to 1597 and stands at the head of Bretton Clough, in the heart of the Peak District.Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet, on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest pub in Derbyshire. Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are magnificent and on a clear day you are able to enjoy views over five counties. The pub serves a fine selection of well kept real ales and delicious, freshly cooked, mostly locally sourced food, every day.Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed bar, real log fires, flagstone floors, studded doors in low doorways, beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.

I went to celebrate my birthday with friends and family. Lovely food and surroundings. Our waitress Michaela couldn’t do enough for our table. She was friendly and helpful and even took time out to organise a beautiful little birthday cake. Thank you Michaela you made my birthday extra special. I will definitely be visiting again

Very friendly, helpful and efficient service in a pleasant venue at the intersection of almost traffic free streets. A fine variety of skilfully produced small dishes from a (sensibly) fairly limited menu. All the dishes were very well done, some exceptionally so. We had beer but the wine list looked interesting. It all made for a very enjoyable lunch.

Out of 10 stars I would rate this place 100*. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. 🎉 In summary.. - amazing steak & sides - Blacklock red wine that perfectly complements steak - beautiful, warm venue - flawless service - extraordinary value We both had ribeyes perfectly cooked to medium & medium rare. Tender, juicy, tasty and near perfect seasoning. There's a smoky flavour that you rarely experience in the UK but is a signature for high-end US steakhouses. Either way another added dimension of great flavour. A kale/parmesan side dish provided a great contrast to the steak. The sweet potato another solid side. Our wine was the Blacklock Syrah red which is a wine clearly designed by God for steak. I'm not a expert but it had a perfect acidity to cut through the fattiness of the ribeye and refresh the palate with every sip. 🍷 Lovely dining atmosphere that would work whether you're with friends, family, business, date-night or dining alone. Even the table spacing was just right. Glassware on the table is also interesting and unique. It's all this attention to detail that just keeps adding to the experience. The service was flawless. Attentive, informed with a relaxed friendliness. As I'm sure many others have remarked the pricing & value of Blacklock is truly extraordinary. Normally you get great food, service, wine & venue but then pay through the nose for it. Not at Blacklock. Blacklock seems to harken back to an old-school community capitalism with a conscience. Let's create an amazing experience, treat our people well so they in turn treat our customers well. And then price it in a way that is comfortably sustainable for the enterprise while allowing as many in our community as possible to be part of the experience. Beautiful. 🙌 Bravo Blacklock. You told us you put the restaurant in a basement because you set out to become a 'destination restaurant.' From where we sat & ate you definitely achieved that.
