Shelby's, in Orinda, crafts elevated and contemporary Continental and California fusion cuisine made with fine ingredients in its friendly and bright restaurant. The organic sweet potato chips with a mild chipotle dip and the breaded fried brie in a chipotle-strawberry glaze with warm baguette make most welcoming starter options. Some of Shelby's specialty entrée dishes include the slow-roasted Asian baby back ribs in a tangy marinade, the seafood paella with saffron rice, chicken, seafood and vegetables in a tasty broth and the black forest pizza topped with ham, bacon bits, cheese and caramelized onions. For a sweet end to your meal, the cold blueberry soup with vanilla ice cream won't steer you wrong.Shelby's also serves a fully organic breakfast, when you can indulge such plates as the California omelette with turkey, avocado, cheese and roasted fingerling potatoes and the croissant French toast with vanilla custard and strawberries.

John’s Grill is one of my most favorite restaurants in SF. The staff are efficient and friendly. The ambiance is great, and I enjoy taking first-timers to this gem. The food is great, and my favorite is Jack LaLanne seafood salad with a glass of Chardonnay. Steaks and pasta dishes are great too! Make a toast or two to Hammett, Bogart, Astor, Greenstreet etc. Save a bit of time to check out The Maltese Falcon and other film noir items upstairs. Enjoy the day!

Your prototypical neighborhood restaurant and bar that’s achieved something of a landmark status over the years (thus, attracting patrons and actual tourists from greater distances) for serving hearty meals, providing warm attentive service (by waitstaff, some of who have decades of tenure) and by offering a level of conviviality, bonhomie and ambience that makes you feel as if you’re dining with family and friends. Please forgive the evident bias in my review. I’ve been a proud “member” of The Casa (as it’s known by we locals) Family since 1971.

Highly recommend this restaurant! Food was absolutely outstanding! Started with the house salad, spinach salad with a fabulous balsamic dressing and walnuts sprinkled on top. Then had the pappadelle pasta with shrimp. Wonderful creamy pesto sauce. My companion had the lasagna which came in a cute casserole dish. She said it was fabulous! Also, the bread was really fresh, and I liked the fact that oil and vinegar were left in decorative bottles on the table. Great service! Cute ambience. I’ll definitely be back.
