The New Yorker opened in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression as the then largest hotel in the city. Beneath the hotel, a bank vault and offices were occupied by the Manufacturers Trust Company until 1980. The Manhattan iteration of the Brooklyn based pizzeria centered around a historic brick oven and comforting food. Emily has earned a following for its signature Detroit-style pies and award winning burger. The pizza here is rectangular (not round) and utilizes the "frico" technique, in which cheese is drizzled on the edges of the pie to create a crispy brown exterior. Beyond the main event, the menu extends to include salads and sandwiches, which shouldn't be ignored (think an attention-grabbing burger and a top-notch spicy fried chicken sandwich).
