Casual waterfront dining right on the docks of the Patchogue River, The Oar serves up fresh and delicious steaks and seafood. Chefs prepare specialties like coconut shrimp, 36 oz sizzling prime porterhouse, lobster quesadillas and fresh Bluepoint oysters and little clams which are delivered daily. Two dining rooms are decorated in traditional nautical style. The front wall in made up of French doors that open onto the water, providing dockside open air seating in warm months and picturesque views of the marina year-round. The rear dining room is elegant with raise panel mahogany, white table clothes and blue and white nautical stripe wall paper. A pleasant experience from beginning to end. Entering the State Room began with a speakeasy vibe which was amazing. It was beautifully decoded and the food and drinks were delicious. What really stood out was service. Service was executed as if it’s fine dining but with a level of casualness which we loved. Server was very knowledgeable and truly showed a passion for the restaurant. I asked a question about the drink garnish which he answered but even another server on the side chimed in. Passion cannot be trained and the servers here definitely have it. Will be back for sure!!

The view, as promised, is beautiful. Food is excellent. I had the calamari appetizer, which was just the right level of spicy, and the shrimp Cobb salad, with a fabulous chocolate martini for dessert. Our waitress was affable and efficient.
