It is in within easy distance from the towns of East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and only 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport. The Pub with its oak beams and two inglenook fireplaces proffers a warm and cosy atmosphere in the winter, whilst our terrace is perfect to enjoy a drink and food in the summer months. Being a free house we pride ourselves in the quality of our real ale, and concentrate on local breweries, such as Harvey's of Lewes and other micro breweries. Our food is cooked to order, using fresh, seasonal and where possible locally sourced ingredients. Our Christmas dinner at Essence was perfect in every way. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly served. The staff were very warm and friendly. All the thoughtful little extras were much appreciated. Everything was memorable and special and we may make this a family Christmas tradition!

Overall it was very nice but we didn’t understand why the waiter told us we couldn’t have the champagne that we had selected to have with our afternoon tea and could only have Prosecco. It was an option on the menu however, they were unable to serve it to us. The waiter mumbled something, we thought he said they couldn’t open a whole bottle of champagne for two glasses.

First time trying the White Hart and the Sunday roast didn't dissappoint. Portion sizes were ample and it was delicious. Service was a little slow but this wasnt an issue. Lovely atmosphere and very dog friendly. Well definitely be back again.
