Best Restaurants for Groups in Essex

After many years, we decided to make the drive to The Gris. We were not disappointed. I ordered clam chowder and the salmon entree. My wife ordered the cod entree. Everything was prepared perfectly and tasted delicious. However, our waitress seemed confused at times and not everything went smoothly as a result. For instance, although I asked for the chowder to be served before the entrees but the entrees were brought to the table without getting the chowder. When I asked the waitress what happened, she was confused but asked me if I still wanted it. I said yes and she promptly served it along side my salmon. That aside, it is a grand old place. The only other negative was that a cold breeze permeated the restaurant every time the front door opened. You would think they would have solved that problem over the many years it’s been there.

Excellent dining experience in every way—warm, inviting ambiance, thoughtful and courteous waitstaff, delicious cuisine, and reasonably priced. Lively bar opposite the dining room for those who want a little more variety, but it’s not excessively noisy. Practically a Westbrook institution—so consistently well done for years.

Aspen Restaurant is a fine place to dine with beautiful ambience. The food is excellent and the service is great! Haley, our waitress was absolutely amazing and was very customer focused. I strongly recommend dining here.

Great place to eat before Essex Steam Train. Accommodating servers (we had many children). Good food/beer. We also were able to park at the brewery and leave our car there while taking the train. It was easy to get out following the train. Highly recommend!
