Bar Primi is a corner pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York's East Village has since become an essential in chef and co-owner Andrew Carmellini's range: fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order. At Bar Primi, the main course is Primi Piatti. We use a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and handed-down techniques to create our menu of Traditional and Seasonal pasta dishes. Our first location Gjelina LA in Venice Beach opened in 2008 becoming a staple in the local community. In 2023, we opened a Gjelina location in New York at 45 Bond Street. A month into being open, we had a fire and had to close our doors. As we complete construction and prepare for our reopening in fall 2024, Gjelina NY has had a series of pop-ups this summer, beginning with WSA in June and July, and NO BAR at The Standard, East Village, for the month of August. Our third location, Gjelina Las Vegas is scheduled to open at the end of 2024.

Jst a fantastic evening. We had not been in so long. You easily fall into trap of thinking such places are indeed tourist traps. But this is the real deal: lovely decor, excellent food (and sizable portions), and attentive staff. And post dinner some wonderful jazz in the bar area. Cannot think of a better way to spend an anniversary in our own city!

We ordered multiple small plates and enjoyed them all. The chicken liver melts in your mouth like butter and the grape jelly is oddly epic. The tuna tartare was fresh and light. Other dishes we enjoyed included the calamari, Brussels, and crab toast). Service and ambience were excellent as well. Can’t wait to return again soon.

Very fresh, delicious food. Recommend the scallops appetizer, set on a bed of mashed potatoes - melts in your mouth. Meatballs, any appetizer with eggplant. pear, radicchio and walnut salad makes you forget it's winter. The lamb chops are extraordinary and of a quality only a restaurant can get. Black cod Livorno - luscious!! Palma's pastry chef is exceptional - you can taste the actual ingredients without being overwhelmed by the sugar. Attentive, but not intrusive, staff. Charming, romantic setting, with fresh flowers everywhere!!
