- CChristinaYorkshire •1 review5.0Dined 2 days agoWe ordered the classic (and quite famous) Steak and Ale pie from the menu with a side to share of the mac and cheese. Let me say that I've eaten a lot of pub pies (especially steak & ale!), and this one was definitely the best. It is a large pie, with crisp, golden pastry, with a delish red onion gravy and soft, buttery mash. The beef was generous, cubed and soft and falling apart. Not a speck of hard or crusty fat on the beef to be found (which often detracts from other steak & ale pies I've had). Honestly, delicious! Everything worked together well on the plate. The mac and cheese was full tasty with a salty cheddar sauce. Drinks were spot on with the local cider. The atmosphere in the dining area was pretty chill, the music on the speakers quite eclectic, but overall, it was a pleasant night. Noise level was good without being overwhelming. I appreciate that pre-booked tables were immediately by the front door (it was very cold outside!) or right next to the bar where you're likely to get knocked. Would return for food or drinks again, 100%!More infoGuy Fawkes InnPrice: Expensive• British• York•4.4
- DDouglasBerkshire •6 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoA lovely experience from arrival until we finished. A warm welcome, very good food and a superb pianist (who's range was huge- Colplay, Victoria Wood, Queen, Hans Zimmer and many more - she was brilliant.) We were there as part of my wife's Birthday, and everyone with a Birthday got a lovely wee surprise.More infoBettys Café Tea Rooms - YorkPrice: Very Expensive• Afternoon Tea• York•4.7
