Meat & Potatoes is a high end gastropub in downtown Pittsburgh. Its kitchen takes as its inspiration the idea of elevating comfort food to a gourmet level. Its chefs are inspired by fresh, seasonal ingredients and its bar staff creates innovative cocktails and serves a range of wines by the glass and draught beers, as well. The menu at Meat & Potatoes is a new take on basic. There are classic appetizers like fried pickles, grilled bread and fried Brussels sprouts, as well as more innovative fare like fried pigs ear and buttermilk fried chicken liver. Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh. Vallozzi's Pittsburgh has recently joined a mere 1,200 restaurants worldwide as a recipient of the Wine Spectator Magazine's Best of Award of Excellence and is the only Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh to receive such an honor.     Every time I come to Pittsburgh, this is must on my list of places to eat. The cocktails are great, the food is very creatively put together and has tons of excellent flavors. Great service, and overall a great experience.

    This is a very cute space. We sat in the u-shaped banquet towards the back, so it gave us a little privacy. We had a vegetarian and a gluten sensitive diner in our party and both were happy with their options. (GF probably more so since they had gf rolls and the popcorn sundae for dessert!) All of the other people in our party were pleased with their meals; I had the duck confit (minus the Gorgonzola) and it was fantastic. Nice wine selection; not an overwhelming number of choices, but some good ones. Will definitely go back!

    I enjoyed our meal and the waiter we had was wonderful, i believe his name was mike. (not 100% sure) he was very polite and great service. Overall great experience and good food.

    The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The ambience was excellent. We loved our time there. The staff cared about us and one of us to have a wonderful experience and we did.. I will be returning next year.
