Ah, there really is nothing more wonderfully British than a nice cup of tea and an opportunity to put your feet up, something the folk at London’s Tea and Tattle know only too well. Situated under the atmospherically delightful Arthur Probsthain Oriental and African Bookseller (est. 1903 no less), Tea and Tattle is a very English escape from the stiff upper lips of the busy streets above. Painted in a bright white, the room is light and airy despite its subterranean location, one wall featuring hand-painted Chinese wallpaper, others eclectic art works, some of course related to the business of bookselling. Calling itself a ‘traditional tea room with a modern cultural twist’, Tea and Tattle specialises in that indulgent favourite, the afternoon tea. It’s a must for tourists and locals in need of a relaxing hour away from the office alike but for those needing something more practical to eat, there’s also a good range of high quality sandwiches, cakes and scones.

We enjoyed, nay, loved our experience at Fitz’s for Christmas lunch. It could not have been better. Cocktails to champagne to burgundy, pared with magnificent dishes, including lobster bisque, scallops, turkey, pudding and more. OMG it was great. But the service was spectacular. We had Naeera, a French lady who was exceptionally attentive. Over four hours of bliss! Thank you Naeera — you made Christmas 2024 so special for us.

We have eaten at Pentole & Padelle twice this week and are over the moon. We came with a large party (9-10 ppl) and found it by accident as we made a random reservation day-of; it was the perfect place to escape the crazy Christmas crowds on the nearby busy streets. We were immediately welcomed in and were impressed with the hospitality and the ambience. It is lovely inside, warm and welcoming, casual but very nice. The decor is lovely and is very festive for the holiday season. We’ve done both the regular menu and the prix fixe menu and have loved everything: for appetizers the croquettes, the artichoke soup, the bruschetta is out of this world. For entrees we’ve had spaghetti, carbonara, lasagna, linguini with prawns, and everything has been phenomenal. Fresh, homemade, pure ingredients. The desserts (panna cotta, Tirimisu, assorted sherbets) are among the best we’ve ever had. Price ranged but was less than £30 each. We also recommend the limoncello spritz! We cannot recommend Pentole & Padelle enough. We’ll be coming back as soon as we make it back to London!
