My grandfather worked his way up in the restaurant industry in the 1930's and '40s and in 1942 opened his first Italian restaurant, The Sorrento. When it came time to name our new restaurant, we decided on IL Sorrento in honor of my grandfather. I know my grandparents & my mom are smiling down on us with approval. This is one of my favorite restaurants food -wise in the Tarrytown area and we adore the owner and his family. It's casual feeling with upscale food. The sandwiches and burgers are great value. Some of the appetizers and main courses are a bit expensive for a casual-feeling place, but if you understand that up front you can enjoy a wonderful meal without getting dressed up. There are always some fabulous specials to select from plus enough basics to satisfy less adventurous eaters. The market up front gives the place a special feeling and it's a wonderful place to stock up on some gourmet treats. The cheese and olive selections are standouts.
