The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

    Discovering in Texas the appetizing and authentic French cuisine, thanks to this restaurant, is a true treasure!     Excellent food: -A dinner special appetizer: rich, creamy parpardelle with black truffles -Lobster medallion salad with avocado marmalade, grapefruit, French cocktail sauce -Dover sole with mushroom, asparagus risotto -Braised short ribs with butternut squash mousseline, Autumn vegetables, Cabernet syrup - Profiteroles for dessert Excellent service a la Didi!

    As usual the service was impeccable!!! We love the atmosphere and hands down the food was delicious. Definitely one of my favorite Houston Restaurants!

    Another spectacular brunch. The eggs Benedict are one of my favorite dishes for brunch here. So many great options and all fabulous.

    We have been here before with good food and service but unfortunately this was not the case this time. When we got there , our guests were seated at a table. The manager informed me he was sorry but we would have to move because the table was for someone else. I said I hope we get a table just as good and he said (I couldn't believe) you won't like it as much. We were seated near the door leading to the kitchen! Then our guest ordered and was told by the sever "Oh I'm sorry that's from the wrong menu, let me get you the right one as we don't have that item". Finally, our food came out and only three of us were served. No comment about it would be right out. After several minutes I asked and was told it would be out soon. When it came, it was obvious, the order had been missed and they hurried up cooking the sole. We had to sent it back when it hurriedly came out because it was undercooked! It was a totally embarrassing evening for us as we were hosting and treating our guests. By the way, I seldom if ever write reviews but this one unquestionably deserved a posting.

    Great lunch experience with my son. Excellent escargot, goat cheese salad, Dover sole. The standouts were the mussels and the apple tart. DiDi (spelling?) was the most attentive server. Definitely going back.
