The Nichols brothers, Matt & Jeff, grew up in Ames, Iowa where their love of cooking, good food and a sense of family and community was nurtured.

The 2013 opening of their second Santa Barbara Wine Country restaurant, Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn in Santa Ynez, allows them to offer visitors and locals alike great food, wine and hospitality. The brothers strive to have legendary service, innovative cuisine, and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that causes you to return time and again.

As chefs, the brothers continue to experiment with new dishes and cuisine, but always with that “from scratch”, homemade element. Fresh ingredients from local producers, a wine list that showcases the region’s award-winning wines and a comfortable and historically interesting atmosphere that takes you back to the romance of the old west. They want you to feel at home, and experience all the best of Santa Barbara’s Wine Country.

    The rack of lamb is great but the trout is lacking. Our server took very long to take our order and did not check on us after we received our food. Very lackluster service overall for a nice restaurant that I’ve heard good things about. Added in the notes that we were celebrating my birthday and no one acknowledged it. Other tables had employees singing happy birthday and providing free dessert but not me…yikes! The almond joy dessert is amazing though!

    The food is incredible. We ordered the tuna tar tar, a wild greens salad, and a ribeye. Everything was absolute perfection. This restaurant is a must go to when visiting solvang. It’s incredibly special and the service is amazing. I am your #1 fan brothers red barn

    As usual, the Brothers Restaurant provided us an excellent venue to have a great meal and the service was outstanding! Never been disappointed while meeting there and eating meals!

    Wonderful food in a casual country setting. Although prices may seem a little pricey you do get a lot for your money. We opted to split the 12 oz Prime Rib and we still brought home food. While I gave this restaurant 6 stars a couple of things need to be adjusted to truly be a fine dining establishment. First upgrade the quality of the seating in your main dining room. Majority of tables run down the center of the room with servers walking on both sides. The flooring in this previous barn, creeks as people walk by making the seats on one side of the table bounce, which does create them uncomfortable feeling. On top of that is that the wooden seats are so hard they are very uncomfortable as well. I do believe the main dining decor needs a little refinement. This is an a complaint, but they do charge a $10 split charge if you want the restaurant to split the entrée to start. They will give you an extra plate if you are OK splitting it for yourself. It was worth it for us to have them split it because they do give you additional side dishes on the second plate. Overall, we were quite impressed. This is our first time at Brothers in this location.

    We had a wonderful server. The steak was delicious cooked to perfection. The ambience was good although it was a little noisy. We were in the main room and it was Halloween. Otherwise it was a wonderful dining experience!👍🏻

    Bartender, Nick, is always great and friendly, no matter how busy he is. Food is fantastic, lamb chops were perfect and steak was great also. Server was excellent even with a very busy evening and full house. Always go there when we are in Santa Ynez/Los Olivos.
