Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

Food was very under seasoned, crab cakes fell apart, asparagus was bitter, no butter in the mashed potatoes or given with the mashed potatoes, my schnitzel was so huge it eclipsed all the other food on my plate all and all the chef needs to find salt and pepper. The only thing that was good was the dessert that was free from the manager to buy us off in the end I feel like he did not listen to us especially when the crab cakes had complaints before by other customers. I hope they improve. Waitress was the best part she was really nice and provided good customer service.

We really enjoyed the live music and appreciated the complimentary valet parking, it was incredibly crowded before 6 PM, probably due to happy hour. The food is always great.

We stopped here for a simple Mother - Daughter lunch, as my daughter loves their Buffalo wings. They didn't disappoint! In addition, we enjoyed a Mediterranean Salad and the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich. They are definitely on the list of my favorite places.

Ehh, is how I would describe our first visit. Hate that 2 people are always offered the smallest and loudest table in a restaurant. Got a booth in the back of the restaurant which was close to the kitchen. Waitress offered bread & butter basket but never got it. Ordered soup & a salad and entree's at the same time. Halfway through the small salad, the entree's arrived (blazingly quick) Entree's - cajun mac & cheese and pork loin schnitzel. Mac & cheese had spice but was runny. Schnitzel didn't have a lot of flavor. Also ordered a glass of wine which arrived after the entree's. As we left, we saw other tables seemed to pick the burgers. Maybe we should have done that. I wouldn't make a special trip up to the restaurant.

Last night my husband and I joined our friends for dinner and we had a blast. Paul D. was our server and he was great. My husband’s friend got the crab cakes, after Paul suggested them. He said they were amazing. My husband had been wanting to try the burger and finally had it. He said it was the best burger he’s had. I went with the short ribs and my friend got the salmon. For my bday dessert, I got the chocolate custard brownie and my feigns got the apple bread pudding. Both were scrumptious. Drinks complimented our meals: salted caramel martini for me and an espresso and chocolate martini for my friend. Thanks for a fun evening!

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day and appreciated that they had some traditional specials along with their regular, varied menu. It's a great spot for family gatherings with a diverse menu - some options for all generations. It's typical "gastropub" fare, nicely prepared. We were there on a busy Sunday lunch hour and appreciated very attentive service from our server as well as a visit to the table from the manager, checking to see if we were pleased with our meals. Good location, diverse, casual menu and very good service.
