Celebrating its 118th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

Old and needs refreshed and a good cleaning . We’ve eaten here many times but just not as we recall. No energy nothing innovative. Just tired.

Excellent food, service, experience! I ordered the 3 course pre fixe dinner (65.00) and paid an extra $10 for filet mignon which was outstanding and worth the extra charge. You are allowed to select your courses from the set menu. Good variety of choices. Will definitely return!

Everything was an issue from the menu to coffee and desert. We had to ask for a regular menu. They were pushing the limited menu as a “pre theater” feature but it was 5 pm! The waiter made his displeasure known but brought the menu. One in our party ordered a salad that was fresh and tasty. A waiter brought warm rolls to the table and put one on our side plates. Once the roll was gone the plates were removed-no seconds there. The pasta dishes on the menu were offered in whole or half portions. Two in our party ordered half portions and that seemed like an issue for our waiter. He finally relented and took the order. I ordered the Maine scallops and they were rubbery and tasteless. I had to use a knife to cut them. These would never be served in my home state of Maine! The lemon tarte for desert was great. We ordered coffee and three cups were served with a 2 ounce pitcher of cream. We asked for more cream and the waiter actually sneered at us. We were told that was enough for us. He was wrong so he had to return to the table and made us aware that he wasn’t happy. The ambiance was lovely, old world, cloth table cloths, quiet, overall attractive. I would expect fresh flowers over fakes but that’s me. Just to cap off the experience the ladies room toilet didn’t flush. Overall—a one star experience.

We were thrilled with our dinner at Barbetta, where celebrated our 25th anniversary along with our college-age sons. Because the pre-theatre crowd had left by the time our dinner began, our meal was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. We were never rushed, and the servers were fantastically attentive. I wish we could have an anniversary every day!

Four of us went to Barbetta after seeing a matinee on Broadway. This was our first time and we all agreed that we will be going back again. The price fixed menu was very reasonable and the food was excellent. Even better was our waiter who not only took the order, but had a conversation with each of us. The whole experience was memorable.

We loved everything about this special restaurant. Had dinner after the opera. From the service to the ambiance to the food, everything was perfect. The beef and the salmon were delicious, as were the spectacular desserts. Can’t wait to come back!

Coming back to Barretta after 8 years, I must say the food was not good. I’m shocked. It was not up to its name and I was sad. I loved this place.
